Ohio Wesleyan University ( www.owu.edu ) is a selective, private, undergraduate liberal arts, residential institution founded in 1842 and is located just 20 miles north of Columbus. The Office of Human Resources is seeking an Employment Specialist, responsible for the oversight and management of the University’s employment function including faculty, staff, and student employment.
As a member of the Human Resources team, the Employment Specialist supports the OWU community by coordinating all aspects of the University’s employment process, including processing and review of requisitions, job postings, employment offer letter generation, and analysis of recruiting efforts. The position ensures training for search committees has been completed prior to search postings. The Employment Specialist coordinates employment paperwork including processing of pre-employment contingencies, such as background checks. Position manages job descriptions and revisions, performance evaluations, I-9 documentation, and maintains employee personnel files. The Employment Specialist will lead research into and provide recommendations to the Director of Human Resources regarding process improvement initiatives to result in greater departmental efficiency and effectiveness. The Employment Specialist is also responsible for running payroll for student employees and ensuring student employment at the university is aligned with state and federal rules and regulations.
Associate’s degree, or high school graduate with four years of human resources experience.
Two years full-time work experience in the employment function in human resources.
Ability to protect and maintain confidentiality, including handling issues with discretion and good judgment.
Proficient in MS Office Word and Excel to create documents and spreadsheets
Effective written communication skills
Experience working with ADP.
Experience with student employment.
Experience with executing the payroll function.
Successful experience demonstrating a customer service orientation.
Successful experience observing details and working with a high level of accuracy.
Ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects.
Ability to define problems and recommend alternative solutions.
Experience streamlining and automating processes and working for continuous process improvement.
Experience using Google suite of applications (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail, and Calendar)
Effective oral communication skills and interpersonal communication skills.
Successful experience working collaboratively.
Successful experience communicating effectively with personnel across all levels across an organization, and with external vendors.
Experience working in higher education or a not-for-profit institution.
Ability to actively foster a respectful, positive work environment that welcomes all persons.
