The DeCaen Lab (https://labs.feinberg.northwestern.edu/decaen/) is seeking postdoctoral fellows for several novel projects studying the molecular and mechanistic dysregulation of ion channels in disease states. We are located at Northwestern’s medical campus in downtown Chicago. Start dates are flexible and can begin in July 1, 2019.
Our group focuses on applying and developing novel structural and biophysical methodologies to study ion channels. We specialize in determining their molecular interactions during conformational changes and binding with drugs— with the goal of understanding how to regulate their function during disease. We are interested in several organ systems, including the brain and kidney.
Some questions we are investigating-
Which ion channels function in cellular organelles and how can we design cutting-edge probes to study their function?
How do ion channels move and how can we exploit new understandings to control disease?
We are looking for interested researchers with experience in these general areas— molecular biology, biochemistry, structural biology, electrophysiology and biophysics— however, being an expert is not required. Conducting ion channel basic research utilizing molecular biology and biophysical approaches. Includes performing research and disseminating research via publications and presentations.
Participating in training of graduate students and research technicians.
Ph.D. in a field with some connection to biology, biophysics, chemistry and with research experience and a peer-reviewed publication record. Candidates whose work is not yet published are encouraged to upload (or link to) preprints of manuscripts in progress.
