Assistant Professor of Community Nutrition and Health
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition, and the College of Human Sciences, at Iowa State University, in Ames Iowa seek applicants for an Assistant Professor (tenure-eligible, full-time, 12-month). The Position Responsibilities are 70% Extension and Outreach, 25% research, and 5% service. The faculty will foster education and outreach, and lead research programs in the priority areas of community nutrition and health promotion for the citizens of Iowa.
The faculty will develop and coordinate educational offerings and programs, informational guides and online materials to enhance the health and well-being of adults living and working in Iowa. In partnership with on-campus faculty and staff and Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach field personnel the faculty will engage in scholarly work including, but not limited to, Extension and Outreach educational strategies, resources, programs and endeavors; Extension and Outreach publications, displays and presentations; grants and/or contracts written and awarded; news releases, interviews with the mass media, and or systemic use of social media; and refereed publications and presentations.
Proposed areas of focus will include promotion of healthy diets and lifestyles, prevention and reduction of chronic disease, and mitigation of health disparities in underserved populations. The faculty will procure and lead externally funded research projects that synergize applied and investigative work. Opportunities to build collaborative networks between ISU and healthcare facilities, state agencies, schools, businesses and other organizations is expected. Mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, publishing work in peer reviewed journals, and presentations at professional meetings is expected. The position requires travel within the state (occasionally overnight), excellent oral and written communication skills, and an ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. or equivalent in nutrition, public or community health, or related discipline.
Experience in Extension/educational program development for adult learners, including online/virtual education and evaluation
Ability to effectively reach and work with diverse audiences
Experience communicating effectively to a wide range of diverse audiences, including social media messaging
Demonstrate skills in using and adapting technology in support of programmatic outreach
Experience with conducting research and Extension in an interdisciplinary environment
Experience in securing partnerships and extramural funding
Published scholarly works related to community nutrition and health
Evidence of effective curriculum development skills
Ability to interpret research and communicate to public
