The Associate Director of Donor Relations assists the Director of Donor Relations in implementing a program with a goal of nurturing positive relationships with leadership donors. The program is composed primarily of donor stewardship, which includes cultivating and stewarding long-term relationships with leadership donors, as well as leadership gift acknowledgment and recognition.
Key tasks include: Working closely with the Director of Donor Relations to manage and implement the stewardship of leadership donors to the College and providing strategic and creative thinking around how to advance stewardship to a more sophisticated and personalized level. Managing the reporting on endowed funds, while working closely with faculty, staff, and administrators throughout the College as well as with Individual Giving officers to ensure that leadership donors receive substantive, timely, and meaningful stewardship that demonstrates the impact of their gifts. This includes partnering with faculty and staff across campus to insure that endowment income spending is timely and in accordance with donor intent. Effectively using the Banner and Argos Advancement systems to track, manage, and report stewardship activities.
Manages reporting process for the College’s endowed funds and current restricted gifts, ensuring that donors eligible for stewardship receive information that demonstrates the impact of their philanthropy in a timely and meaningful fashion.
Interacts with recipients of scholarships, summer opportunities, professorships, and other awards to provide thank-you notes and personal information to leadership donors.
Serves as a resource for deans, gift officers, donors, and beneficiaries regarding endowment fund information.
Utilizes Banner and Argos systems and related technology tools to support endowed fund stewardship, and assure the accuracy and completeness of the data in these systems
Works with gift officers to ensure that personalized acknowledgement letters to leadership donors are written in accordance with established protocols. Tracks letters to ensure timely delivery.
Plays an active role in the development of new approaches to stewardship in collaboration with colleagues across the division.
Assists in analysis and evaluation of programs; recommends new procedures to improve quality, effectiveness, and efficiency.
Works closely with the Director of Advancement Marketing and Communications on print and electronic pieces related to leadership donor recognition and stewardship.
A minimum of five (5) years working in institutional advancement, or equivalent professional experience.
Valid US driver’s license and ability to travel locally, regionally, or nationally.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, or as needed to complete projects or meet heavy demand.
Strong organizational abilities.
Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple and varied tasks independently, while also working collaboratively.
Strong written and oral communication skills, including in imaginative and persuasive writing.
Strong skill in dealing with people, using tact and diplomacy, and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Superior customer service skills.
Strong ability to articulate the value of higher education.
Ability to use a variety of computer applications, including demonstrated skills in the use of word processing and spreadsheets (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs and Sheets), managing reporting from fundraising databases (e.g. Banner) and reporting software (e.g. Argos), Web page design software (e.g. Drupal), and desktop publishing software.
Experience working in a college or university setting, especially in a comprehensive fund-raising campaign environment.
