The Hingorani Laboratory investigates molecular and cellular mechanisms of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) pathogenesis. The murine models of distinct genetic subtypes of pancreas cancer that we have developed form the basis of our integrated, systematic, and multidisciplinary research program. Our efforts are directed at identifying and overcoming stromal barriers to treatment (including elevated interstitial pressures, activated fibroblasts, and multiple mechanisms of immune suppression); identifying and disrupting molecular drivers of metastasis; and developing immune-based treatment strategies. Our ultimate aim is to take our discoveries and reduce them to practice in the clinic in order to radically transform the approach and prognosis for patients with this devastating disease.
This Research Technician II/III position represents an excellent opportunity for an experienced, highly motivated individual with a passion for science to work and learn in a dynamic scientific environment while addressing important problems relevant for the successful treatment of cancer.
The research technician will be involved in all aspects of murine preclinical studies including but not limited to breeding, genotyping, ultrasound and other imaging techniques, drug treatments, and performing necropsies to obtain tissues for histology and cell lines. The technician may be involved in derivation, maintenance and study of primary cell lines; isolation of DNA, RNA, and proteins; as well as other techniques such as FACS sorting and expanding cells in vitro, analyzing cell phenotype and function using techniques including flow cytometry, proliferation assays, cytotoxicity assays, PCR, RT-PCR, sequencing, and ELISpot. Molecular techniques used in the lab include cloning, transfection/transduction of cell lines, gene targeting and northern and Southern blotting. Biochemical and cellular techniques include SDS-PAGE, western blotting, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry. The technician may assist in the design, analyses and reporting of team and independent experiments. The technician will also assist with the management and organization of a fast-paced lab and perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Research Technician II: Intermediate level position requiring a minimum of 2 years previous experience working in a laboratory and BA/BS in bioengineering, biophysics or a biological science. Independent research experience outside of laboratory course work is necessary.
Research Technician III: Advanced position requiring a minimum of 4 years prior experience in a laboratory setting performing experiments with a high degree of independence and a BA/BS in in bioengineering, biophysics or a biological science
Laboratory research experience including small animal surgeries and injections, cell tissue culture, flow cytometry, and molecular biology techniques are required
Computer skills: Microsoft Excel, Prism (Graphpad), FlowJo, and statistical programs for data analysis
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills are required
Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to multi-task with precise attention to detail is especially critical
Experience with genetically engineered murine models of pancreas cancer or other solid tumors is desired
