In service of Cornell students, faculty, staff, alumni and visitors, the Cornell Retail Services team engineers and executes the operational success of a multi-channel retail business, including a 22,000 sq. ft. flagship campus store, 3 expansive e-commerce sites, and 8 satellite locations throughout the Ithaca area and NYC, ultimately producing a cumulative $26 million in annual retail sales.
The Retail Supervisor will take an active role in managing and supporting their team to drive store metrics, develop and execute promotions, and achieve stated sales objectives in designated departments to support the overall mission of The Cornell Store. This position operates independently and is expected to multi-task, resolve conflict, and work effectively on the sales floor with a variety of customers, visitors, clients and staff. This role will assist in the hiring process, development of staffing plans, and localized training efforts for all staff which enhance customer service standards. The Retail Supervisor and their team interact heavily with faculty, students, and visitors and must represent the organization in a professional manner to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction.
Success in this role includes the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment both independently and as a team player as well as being able to multi-task effectively through multiple priorities while continuing to remain customer service focused. Additionally, it's important to be able assist in daily operation tasks as well as monitor store wide service standards and handle any conflict or concerns with diplomacy and tact as you work with, and support, a variety of customers, visitors, clients and staff especially when providing regular training and coaching. In this role, it's important to be flexible as the schedule may change based on business needs and will include some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Associate's degree or technical training and 2-3 years of experience in a retail or customer service environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated passion for customer service
Strong competencies with Microsoft Office software and previous experience with retail inventory management systems including POS software is critical.
Position requires the ability to climb ladders and lift and/or move 25-50 pounds.
Advanced degree in business management or related field, or additional work experience in a retail field or managerial capacity is capacity is strongly preferred.
Advanced experience with merchandising, promotional, and visual display skills, using and leveraging inventory management tools, retail POS systems, and/or financial reporting tools is highly desirable.
Demonstrated experience training and coaching effective sales and service behaviors is also highly preferred.
