The Student Hourly Assistant, under general supervision, will assist the Department of Chemistry as a Research Assistant.
Synthesize and characterize various metal-amino acids-like derivative complex
Build a computational model of the synthesized complexes and calculate their electronic structures
Analyze and compare the experimental and modeling results
Write reports to present to the scientific community and the general public for dissemination
Attend regular group meeting, excessive absence will result in termination
Carry out a literature survey to learn the current status of the research field
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Education and Experience:
Presently enrolled at Prairie View A&M University for least nine (9) graduate or six (6) undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done.
Must be in good academic standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college; minimum 2.0 GPA
No prior experience necessary
For work eligibility during a summer term, a student must be enrolled for at least six (6) graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours or nine (9) graduate semester hours for the upcoming fall term.
Preferred Education and Experience:
3 months to 1 year experience in research
GPA 2.5 or higher
Completed at least 60 hours by the end of Spring 2021
Enrolled for minimum of 12 SCH for Fall 2021
Completion of CHEM 1033 General Chemistry Lecture
Completion of CHEM 1032 General Chemistry Lab
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Computer skills for technical support and troubleshooting
Experience with Social Media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter)
Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
Ability to work effectively with little supervision while managing multiple priorities under intense deadlines
Strong verbal and written communication
Participate in training sessions
This is a hybrid position. Work will be completed on campus and remotely, based on the needs of the department.
