Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Advanced Practice Nurse for the Department of Surgery within the Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
This position is needed to provide continuity in the care and management of patients from pre-op to post-op on the cardiothoracic surgical service and to maintain high levels of patient care and efficiency to the service. Performs history and physicals, reviews and reports CT Scans, ECHO, diagnostic lab values and other testing to the physicians and obtain preoperative consents. This position will consist of heavy involvement with surgeons, advanced practice providers, nurses, referring physicians and other healthcare providers.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Performs history and physical examination in preparation for Cardiac surgery. Documents findings in the patient’s record.
Ensures all patient phone calls are returned within 24 hours.
Orders preoperative medication and appropriate laboratory, radiologic and special diagnostic tests required for a complete preoperative evaluation. Interpret and report findings to attending physician and resident staff.
Provides follow-up care for any wound complication.
Orders any appropriate medications and diagnostic tests as directed by cardiac surgeon.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a minimum of a Master’s Degree.
At least two (2) years of nursing experience required preferably as an Advanced Practice Nurse.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Experience as a surgical or cardiac surgery APN/PA within a critical care setting.
Experience in hepatology/gastroenterology.
EMR & SCM experience.
At least one (1) year of experience with electronic medical records.
Experience with Microsoft Office.
Experience in treating diverse patient population.
