Cornell University Hospital for Animals is a core clinical training, patient care and research unit within the College of Veterinary Medicine, composed of six diverse world-class veterinary clinical units providing primary and specialty care in their area of focus. Our core teaching hospital has 23 services led by board-certified veterinary specialists that are nationally and internationally renowned, providing advanced diagnostic and therapeutic care to dogs, cats, horses, farm animals and exotic pets including 24/7 emergency care. In addition, our Ambulatory and Production Medicine Service provides veterinary care to more than 54,000 animals per year on regional farms.
The CUHA Pharmacy processes 350-450 prescriptions per day working with faculty clinicians, residents, interns licensed veterinary technicians (LVTs) and veterinary students and with community veterinarians and their staff; we also fill mail orders and provide over-the-counter items and prescription pet foods.
Ensure compliance with all regulations pertaining to the dispensing, compounding, inventory and purchase of drugs, medicines and therapeutic devices upon legal authorization of a licensed practitioners;
Prepare, compound, preserve and dispense drugs and chemotherapeutics while maintaining compliance with USP Guidelines (specifically 795, 797 and 800);
Consult with veterinarians and veterinary students; instruct faculty, staff and veterinary students on proper handling, administration and destruction of drugs, and on pharmacological protocols and regulatory standards;
The hospital runs 24/7/365.Our faculty, staff and students are committed to the care of our veterinary patients at all times. In this position, you must be flexible and be able to work outside normal business hours, including holidays, evenings and weekends, as well as work an "on-call" schedule on a rotating basis
Ensure compliance with NYS and federal controlled substance regulations and security requirements. Education of students, LVTs and clinicians as needed to aid them with compliance.
What are the qualifications?
New York State registration as RPh (or eligibility for registration), completion of Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or PharmD with 2-3 years of experience as a staff Pharmacist;
Develop and maintain excellent working relationships and professionalism with all internal and external constituents of the hospital, including other team members, students, other service technicians and staff, clinicians and clients.
Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as autonomously, to provide excellent customer service to diverse internal and external audiences.
Must pay extremely close attention to details, ensure accuracy at all times, as well as maintain a high degree of organization.
Experience in hospital environment including sterile and non-sterile compounding as well as completion of a veterinary pharmacy residency or veterinary pharmacy experience is strongly desired.
