The UCI Paul Merage School of Business' approach prepares students to adapt to the ever-changing business environment and face head-on the challenges brought on by disruption. To lead in the disruption of today and tomorrow, we need to understand these technologies and master their strategic implications. One way we are accomplishing this is by using cutting-edge instructional approaches and technologies through digital course and program delivery. Our digital learning department spends dedicated one-on-one time with faculty to develop digital courses that focus on optimizing student learning. With our hybrid Fully Employed MBA and Executive MBA classes and the expansion of our BA undergraduate online offerings, we are changing the way our students take digital courses. Our digital learning team focuses on three overarching course design goals, which are to create synergies for minimizing transactional distance, incorporating diverse opportunities for learning connections, and designing active digital learning experiences. Digital learning at the Merage School is more than a convenience; it's an experience. Just as the production of goods and services is changing in business, so are we capitalizing on new technologies to build community, provide access and create world-class learning experiences. By reconceptualizing the path by which students learn, we are doing our part to build flexibility and access in education, bolstering the American Dream.
The Associate Learning Experience Designer (ALXD) is an active participant of the Learning Experience Design hub and works in close collaboration with learning experience designers, other key stakeholders, faculty, and internal staff to design, develop, and execute the course design blueprint in the online learning environment. The ALXD operates both independently and in multifunctional teams to support the curation and creation of digital content for several diverse academic programs. The incumbent demonstrates expertise and proficiency in applying instructional design theory, models, and best practices to develop active learning solutions. The incumbent actively manages multiple projects concurrently and can move projects with many stakeholders involved forward while effectively managing scope, quality, and timeline deliverables. The incumbent adheres to quality standards and showcases competency in effectively organizing digital courses in the Canvas learning management system using learner UI/UX design principles. In addition, the ALXD possesses the expertise and knowledge to design a dynamic online/hybrid course that optimally translates to delivery based on student learning preferences and data-informed best practices. The incumbent evaluates online course design implementation and makes recommendations for improvements based on the established digital learning quality standards. The ALXD is a creative problem-solver and a quick technical troubleshooter, experienced in researching and testing tools to find appropriate applications and solutions. The incumbent is proficient in creating job aids, help documentation, and conducting training for faculty and non-technical users. The ALXD is well-versed in graphic design, the creation of interactive multimedia, and the application of pertinent technology tools to support instruction and to promote meaningful and diverse connections in the online learning environment.
Three years of relevant instructional design experience or combination of relevant education/certification and experience.
Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant instructional design experience or combination of relevant education/certification and experience.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Proficiency in analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, collaboration, and negotiation skills. Functional knowledge with the Canvas learning management system.
Demonstrated analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
Working knowledge and skills with relevant business software systems, cloud-based platforms, and applications. Working knowledge of instructional design principles and learning strategies, including needs analysis, backward design, learning outcomes and assessment design, and instructional approaches including lecture, discussion, activities, projects, etc.
Demonstrated proficiency using instructional design approaches such as learning project plans, course mapping, design blueprints, storyboards, prototypes, etc.
Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently with the ability to move projects with many stakeholders involved forward while managing scope, quality, and timeline deliverables.
Ability to work with the utmost professionalism with multiple stakeholders, including faculty to execute the appropriate course design and development of learning objects and activities.
Working knowledge and skills with industry-standard multimedia applications such as authoring tools, graphics media, audio, animation, and video production tools to create impactful courses (i.e., Adobe Creative Suite, iMovie, Camtasia Studio, Articulate 360, Prezi, Vyond, PowToon, etc.).
Experience triaging requests and referring to the functional expert to find resolutions.
Working knowledge of the technical tools and platforms required to achieve the delivery of engaging and media-rich online learning content, and of trends in the use and effectiveness of educational technology and online/hybrid learning. Thorough knowledge of a variety of learning technology tools to support digital teaching and learning, as well as implemented instructional design principles and pedagogical strategies to promote effective technology-enhanced instruction for face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online delivery.
Demonstrated expertise with non-technical end-user support and troubleshooting for various solutions for both complex pedagogical and technical use-cases.
Familiar with the usability and accessibility guidelines and best practices in instructional design.
Understanding of FERPA and copyright guidelines for the classroom (i.e., Fair Use, the TEACH Act, etc.).
MBA degree and/or a master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or Human-Computer Interaction & Design, or related field.
Working knowledge of functional area and understands how work within one course may impact work being done on other courses or in other areas.
Understanding of business school curricula such as accounting, finance, economics, strategy, management information systems, decision sciences, marketing, and organizational behavior.
Demonstrated knowledge of quality online course frameworks, learning data analysis/metrics reporting.
Working knowledge of organization policies and procedures, including policies that impact online course development.
Special Conditions Required:
A blend of on-campus and remote work is required for this job. This Fall quarter will resume on-campus work for all employees.
