Dept Marketing Statement Originally founded in 1997, the Baskin School of Engineering is the first professional school at UC Santa Cruz. Over the past 20 years, Baskin Engineering has become a unique 21st century school of engineering and technology, characterized by evolutionary growth fueled by on-going research opportunities that open new areas of intellectual inquiry. Baskin Engineering has grown to include six academic departments, a variety of research centers and institutes, and has ambitious plans for further programmatic growth. The focus of Baskin Engineering educational programming is to instill strong basic knowledge for sound practice in science and ethical engineering for the well-being of society, and its diverse curricula facilitate creative thinking and prepare students for productive and rewarding careers. The Computer Science and Engineering department spans multiple areas of research and education including algorithms, logic, and complexity, computer hardware, computer security and privacy, cyber-physical systems, distributed systems, database systems, machine learning and artificial intelligence, natural language processing, networks, pervasive computing and human-computer interaction, programming languages, robotics, social computing, storage systems, and visual computing.
Uses professional engineering concepts. Develops and proposes engineering plans and specifications for equipment and instruments with limited scope and complexity. Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained.

Job Duties 100% - Engineering Project Support
Support and improve back-end and front-end of RouteMe2 trip planning and passenger tracking system.
Contribute to development and implementation of algorithms for tracking of travelers within transit hubs.
Contribute to development and implementation of algorithms for crowdedness monitoring inside bus vehicles.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Basic knowledge of engineering principles and methods to perform entry-level professional engineering functions.
Experience with databases, cloud systems, and web programming.
Experience with transit standards (GTFS format) and related web services (Google Direction, OpenTripPlanner).
Analytical skills, and strong skills in attention to detail.
Organizational and time management skills.
Effective writing and editing skills.
Ability to work as an effective member of a team.
Effective communication skills, including the ability to actively listen.
