Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Student Assistant -Ethnographer for the Department for Urban-Global Public Health within the Rutgers, School of Public Health. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Student Assistant – Ethnographer will provide a range of research and programmatic activities in support of the Cancer Health Justice Lab.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Assists the PI with the development of new and existing programs and research studies.
Conducts ethnographic approaches to ensure that venues for covid-19 prevalence cater to harder to reach populations such as young people and those > 59 years of age.
Develops a written narrative description of key populations and sub populations characterizing the study community for each clinical research site.
Maintains detailed draft list and corresponding map of identified venue by study community zip code.
Assists in project planning, and ensures that the work scope, study procedures and IRB requirements of the research project activities are followed and completed.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Currently enrolled as a Rutgers' student.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience speaking and writing in Spanish.
Must possess excellent communication skills.
Strong data management and analytical skills.
Must have the flexibility and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Must possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
The ideal candidate must have a working knowledge of health disparities in Essex County, COVID-19, health promotion, and health education.
Must know how to use Nvivo, SPSS, or SAS.
Direct service working with vulnerable and hardly reached populations.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Must be able to lift or exert force up to 25 pounds.
Must be able to work 16 hours a week.
