The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology serves as a regional resource for clinical laboratory services required for patient care, research and educational programs in laboratory medicine and pathology. UW Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist/Engineer 1.
Perform malaria molecular assays for clinical trials and research studies.
Facilitate transfer and track of study samples to and from the Lab by handling them appropriately by research protocol
Under supervision, support other research projects by performing other laboratory established protocols
Support analyzation of data to make significant scientific decision as requested
Participate in refinement of our laboratory's QC program to conform to CLIA/CAP guidelines.
Participate in trainings and compliance activities mandatory for the personnel working in CLIA/CAP accredited laboratories.
Collect and enter data into Excel programs.
Scientist assists in preparation of presentations
Scientist demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights. Scientist maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial, or other sensitive materials and information in printed, electronic, or verbal form, which may jeopardize the privacy of patients. Accesses and uses the minimum necessary patient identifiable information to perform job responsibilities and duties and only for authorized purposes.
Maintain and organize documents and data pertaining to specific projects.
Scientist is knowledgeable of necessary computer programs.
Attend, participate, and present in lab meetings.
The employee will be asked to work on the weekends in support of clinical trials and certain experiments.
Perform related duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s or higher in an appropriate field AND Up to one year of experience in a related area AND Up to one year of experience in a related area OR Equivalent combination of education/experience
Knowledge of QC parameters, including mathematical concepts of mean, standard deviation, and coefficient of variation;
Experience with Excel and Word for data entry and data analyse
Good laboratory practice (GLP) skills
An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
It may be necessary to work in other UW departmental locations in order to meet patience service requirements
Will be considered essential staff and as such will be required to report to work when scheduled despite inclement weather
Must be able to meet with all shifts on a regular basis
Must be able to conduct repetitive movements
May work weekends and holidays
May be asked to work hours beyond normal open hours of the laboratory depending on staffing needs and current testing requirements
