Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Clinical Trials Specialist for the Office of Human Research Services (OHRS) at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
The Clinical Trials Specialist (CTS) serves as the chief contact for all new research patient referrals to Genitourinary Disease Specific Group. The Clinical Trials Specialist will work with members of the GU clinical research team to navigate research patients through the health care system, ensuring appointments are given in a timely manner through guidelines agreed upon with the Medical Director of OHRS. This position will serve as an essential link between potential study participant referrals and physician providers. Other responsibilities include assisting with access issues, developing relationships with referring health care providers/CINJ departments and ensuring the complete and efficient management of all referrals, including acquisition of necessary patient-care materials and medical records. Facilitates patient appointments, including those made with labs, diagnostic areas, and CINJ Investigators. In addition, the position will track all new research patient referrals; provide monthly statistics and referring patterns.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Coordinates the preparation of study tools, including, but not limited to study binders, medication diaries, eligibility checklists and flow sheets (as required).
Assists patients in understanding their diagnosis, treatment options, and the resources available including educating eligible patients about appropriate clinical research studies and technologies.
Verifies insurance eligibility, and provides guidance around referral and managed care issues, and information about other prior authorizations that may be needed for testing and procedures.
Assists Investigator with all secretarial/coordination aspects of research referrals for new patients.
Maintains research records (e.g., patient consent, eligibility, Case Report Forms (CRF), registration confirmation, corresponding source documents, etc.) for all patients enrolled in Cancer Institute of New Jersey clinical trials across the health system.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in a social science or related field.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Detail oriented and have excellent organizational skills,
Be proficient in computer applications (Word, Excel, Oncore™).
Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Be able to maximize resources and be resourceful.
Previous experience as a clinical research coordinator/research nurse and working knowledge of insurances.
Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of oncology experience.
Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).
