Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist V for the Department of Emerging Pathogens within the New Jersey Medical School. Under direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Teaching Specialist V conducts immunological research activities to explore cell signaling in innate immune cells.
Among the key duties of this positions are the following:
Performs tissue culture experiments with primary immune cells and with mammalian cells lines.
Assists in the development and testing of new assays including chemical and genetic screens, next-generation sequencing, and/or microscopy.
Works safely in a BSL2 environment, compliant with biosafety protocols.
Assists in laboratory organization, including the ordering and stocking of supplies for laboratory efficiency and cost effectiveness.
Submits purchase recommendations of equipment and supplies to the Principal Investigator.
Assists the Principal Investigator with the preparation of grant applications and manuscripts.
Assists the Principal Investigator in written and formal presentations to industrial collaborators and funding agencies.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant science.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Sterile technique required.
Must be a team player with good communication and interpersonal skills.
One (1) year of related research experience.
Research experience in immunological assays with mouse or human macrophages.
Molecular biology experience in DNA/RNA extraction, PCT and RT PCR, genetic cloning.
Programming languages and prior experience in systems biology, computational biology, data science, machine learning, and bioinformatics techniques.
Previous experience with microscopy, next-generation sequencing, mass spectrometry, CRISPR experiments.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Occasional lifting of 20 pounds to a height of 6½ feet.
Must be available to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays when necessary to meet deadlines.
Must be willing to work with rodents.
