Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Advanced Practice Nurse for the Department of Neurology at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The APN participates in a collegial relationship with physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals. The APN performs in an expanded nursing role by providing primary care to patients, which includes taking histories, making assessments, ordering lab tests, reviewing and reporting diagnostic lab values to the physicians, and deliver phone messages between physicians and patients.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Performs in an expanded nursing role and has responsibility for meeting the needs of a determined number of patients using a primary care model.
Provides patient education to meet the needs of the patients/families.
Interfaces with physicians and other specialists concerning patient care.
Interfaces with families to obtain and provide information concerning patients’ medical care and progress.
Coordinates appropriate referrals to specialties for patient care.
Participates in outpatient neurology clinics and performs history documentation and physicals as needed. Completes disability forms and other documents for patients.
Triage patient telephone calls and follow through to ensure resolution of issues.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Certified as either a Clinical Nurse Specialist or a Nurse Practitioner in the State of New Jersey.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must maintain current CPR for healthcare provider certification and have experience in treating diverse patient population.
At least two (2) years of related nursing experience.
