Research Support - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
The Research Assistants will support a new five-year research study that is evaluating strategies to promote uptake of take-home colorectal cancer screening in African American communities. The research assistant will be actively involved many aspects of this study, including but not limited to 1) sending and tracking completion of an at-home screening tests; 2) conducting basic data organization and analysis that will be used in grant and manuscript preparation and other dissemination activities; 3) developing and maintaining experimental research surveys, primarily using Qualtrics survey software; 4) assist in coordinating research activities and field operations with community partners; 5) prepare and maintain documentation for Institutional Review Board (IRB) review and compliance; 6) oversee project needs and order supplies and materials as needed. Depending on individual interests, opportunities to participate in other basic and applied health research projects may also be possible.
This is an ideal opportunity for an individual who is seeking a supplemental research experience prior to obtaining graduate training, or to compliment recent or ongoing graduate training. The position is especially suited to an advanced undergraduate or recent graduate (including MPH) who is interested in psychological, cross-cultural, or applied (intervention) health research.
Previous lab experience is highly desirable. Strong communication skills and attention to detail is also a must. Previous experience with Qualtrics survey software, as well as SPSS is highly desirable, though some training will be provided.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the specific field of research employment or other related science fields; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in standard laboratory procedures and safety requirements and performing analytical and research techniques in an area related to research being performed; may require software specific to the area of research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position may require special licensing or certification in the field related to the area of employment.
Proficiency with multiple software programs, including Qualtrics, Excel, and SPSS, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position may be ideally suited to individuals who have completed a masters in public health (MPH) program. The position may require special licensing or certification in the field related to the area of employment. Desired proficiency in basic statistics and word-based chart/table creation. Familiarity with video hosting platforms such as Vimeo also desired. Background in psychology or public health is preferred.
