The Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting all aspects of building competitive NCAA Division III football and baseball programs that advances the mission of intercollegiate athletics and the University. The assistant coach assists the head coach in student recruitment and retention; coaches student athletes and fosters their skill development; assists in coaching plans and implementation at practices and competitions; provides for students’ safety, health and wellbeing; complies with NCAA, UMAC and university policies; provides sound fiscal management; assists in equipment oversight, scheduling, travel planning, and summer camps; assists in off-season programs and athlete development; and assists in program communication and fundraising efforts with the Head Coach. The assistant coach will work with the head coaches in football and baseball to build a shared vision, work collaboratively with the Office of Admissions, build and retain a diverse and talented team, foster good sportsmanship and a climate of respect, and provide an environment that supports students in achieving their athletic, academic and life goals.
The University of Minnesota Morris, Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, is seeking an Assistant Football - Defensive Coordinator / Assistant Baseball Coach. This is a full time, 10-month, annually renewable appointment. Starting salary is competitive and negotiable with experience and a record of success. The position carries excellent fringe benefits.
A Bachelor’s degree and demonstrated effectiveness playing and/or coaching football and baseball is required. A Master’s degree, college coaching experience and/or participation at the collegiate level are preferred. Required qualifications include: excellent organization, oral and written communication skills, an appreciation for the philosophy of the NCAA Division III, strong program management skills, the ability to recruit and retain qualified and talented student athletes, a demonstrated commitment to students’ athletic and academic success, the demonstrated ability to build, motivate, and retain a diverse, inclusive, successful team with sensitivity to individuals of all cultural backgrounds, and the capacity to be a visible and engaging leader.
