Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, MIS, or a related discipline
Experience using COBOL, JCL, VSAM, DB2, SQL, HTML, XML and Java to support business systems.
Experience supporting student information systems and/or account receivables systems.
Experience in implementing and supporting data exchange with vendors and third-party applications.
Experience working directly with business process owners and maintaining, developing, and testing programs successfully with a high degree of accuracy.
Experience working in an Agile environment
Information Technology Services (ITS) at Iowa State University (ISU) is seeking qualified candidates for a COBOL Software Developer position. The position will be part of a team providing support for ISUâs Student Information System, Account Receivables System, and other IBM mainframe systems.Â
Ability to collaborate with ITS team members and business office partners and should possess strong analytical/problem-solving skills with customer-focused results.
Manage multiple tasks and decompose large projects into small increments is extremely important.
Have excellent verbal and written communication skills to work with technical staff and business office function staff.
Strong aptitude for customer support
Able to work with a high degree of accuracy and adhere to data confidentiality policies
Depending on the level of experience, the individual may be hired as a Software Developer I or II.Â
I: High school diploma or equivalent (PS808)
II: High school diploma or equivalent and 3 years of related experience (PS809)
Example of Duties
â¢ Consults with end users and team members to define and document specifications and scope of projects.
â¢ Conducts a variety of software development tasks including program design, program coding, debugging, and documentation for software/systems and applications programs.
â¢ Modifies, maintains, troubleshoots, and supports existing software.
â¢ Assists with the development of detailed systems design specifications to meet defined requirements.
â¢ Assists with the design, development, coding, and testing of new software services, databases, and application systems.
â¢ Writes Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to bridge between vendor systems.
