Job Summary: The Mental Health Professional I provides professional clinical services to their clients.
Additional Department Summary: The Mental Health Professional I provides trauma informed clinical services to youth with sexual behavior problems and their families. The primary responsibilities of this person are to complete assessments of children with sexual behavior problems, formulate and implement individualized treatment plans and provide services to the youth and family within a community context. This person will also contribute as part of a community multidisciplinary child abuse review team and will provide community education/outreach
Required Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in a mental-health related field such as counseling, psychology or social work.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Persons who provide direct treatment services to children and youth with sexual behavior problems shall be licensed or licensed eligible to practice in their professional discipline by the appropriate State of Alabama licensing authority where applicable. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier.
Skills and Knowledge: Must possess excellent communication skills - both oral and written - including consultation skills. Must complete documentation of services and other reports in a skilled and timely manner. Word processing and other computer skills required.
Must possess excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, including the ability to develop therapeutic alliances with the treatment team, and other persons engaged with the children. Possess ability to present verbal testimony in juvenile court hearings.
Preferred Qualifications: Two years experience with clinical populations, juvenile offenders or youth with emotional or behavior problems. Prefer demonstrated competence in working with juvenile sex offenders or youth with sexual behavior problems. Prefer clinical experience in conducting intake interviews, completing assessments of youth and their families, completing individualized treatment plans, and individual, group, and family support/therapy; and knowledge and ability to use cognitive-behavioral and relapse prevention interventions used in the treatment of children with sexual behavior problems.
