Job no: 502315 Position type: Full-Time 12-Month Department: 011900 - Biochem,MolBio,Entmology&Plant Path Location: Main Campus - Starkville, MS Categories: Professional Position Open Date: Apr 27 2021
A Research Associate (RA) position is available starting in May 2021 in the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Entomology, and Plant Pathology at Mississippi State University. The position is initially for one year, with the potential to extend to two or more years based on performance, funding, and need. The project focuses on understanding the molecular aspects and the plant immune signaling in plant-microbe communications. The RA will participate in two specific research projects, which are performed in collaboration with researchers in the Institute for Genomics, Genetics, and Bioinformatics at the university. The first project studies the root microbiota using state-of-the-art technology to characterize rhizobiome communities and evaluate the biocontrol activity of rhizobiome microorganisms against soil-borne pathogens. The aim is to understand the diversity of rhizobiome microorganisms that cause specific phenotypes in soybeans, test rhizobiome isolates for beneficial activities, and utilize this knowledge to establish methods for improved growth and biological control of soil pathogens. The second project focuses on a family of thimet oligopeptidases and their cellular functions and regulation during the systemic immune response.
The Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Entomology & Plant Pathology is a comprehensive department with an academic, research and service mission. The Department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from the College of Agriculture and Life Science, and currently advises approximately 330 undergraduates and 60 graduate students.
