Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a motivated Peer Support Specialist for the New Brunswick Outpatient (IOTSS) Program of Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.
The Peer Support Specialist III is a member of a team offering person centered, culturally competent instrumental, information and emotional support either in person or by phone. The PSSIII uses lived experience and basic peer support skills to engage and empower persons served to support their wellness.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Engages consumers in a collaborative and caring relationship.
Provides peer support services and outreach activities.
Maintains a cooperative working relationship with others.
Demonstrates commitment to the mission and goals of the unit.
Maintains appropriate consumer/patient records as mandated by University Behavioral Health Care policy and applicable accrediting organization standards.
Minimum Education and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent.
At least two years of lived experience with target population.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Applicants should be comfortable working independently and as part of a team in a collegial group environment.
Be able to use a computer to record services and other basic office functions.
At least three (3) years' experience working in social or healthcare field and or mental health capacity.
Supportive counseling and/or mental health information and referral services experience.
Bilingual skills (Spanish/English or Cantonese/Mandarin/English).
