Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking an Assistant Dean IIISPVR. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Criminal Justice, this position oversees and coordinates all aspects of academic advisement for School of Criminal Justice undergraduate students. The Assistant Dean IIISPVR duties include but are not limited to the following.
Prioritizes work, resolves routine conflicts and issues, prepares and reviews regularly scheduled reports on applications, admittance, enrollment, and retention and reports these to the Dean;
Takes a leadership role in planning and implementing advisement office policies and procedures;
Designs and implements retention and transitional programs for currently enrolled and newly admitted undergraduate students in the School of Criminal Justice;
Oversees all aspects of academic progress including graduation certification, re-entry, withdrawals, transfer student services including connecting with feeder schools, transfer evaluations, orientation, advising and implementation of New Jersey State-Wile Articulation Agreement;
Serves as a liaison with academic and student services and administrative units to ensure that all School of Criminal Justice undergraduate students integrate into the University, are successful and remain until graduation. Coordinates activities, when necessary, with the Assistant Dean responsible for SCJ graduate programs;
Trains and supervises the SCJ academic counsellor and student assistants;
Serves as a counsellor for SCJ undergraduates;
Attends university functions related to the SCJ and its programs.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor's degree in higher education administration, public administration, management, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of management and administrative principles and practices. Also requires a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in an administrative function, excellent communication skills, and computer literacy.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Minimum of five years related experience in higher education;
Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs;
Ability to relate and interact with both traditional and non-traditional college students;
Detail oriented and flexible, including working evenings and weekends periodically;
Capable to manage multiple tasks and interruptions;
Ability to work with faculty and staff at all levels within the university;
Must have a valid driver's license.
