Senior Revenue Cycle Specialist - Transfer Billing - 2101445
At Stony Brook Medicine, the Senior Revenue Cycle Specialists in Patient Accounting/Transfer Billing will work to reconcile and make ready for billing facility claims for all patient cases treated at Stony Brook whose care required transfer within the hospitals of the health system. The Senior Specialist will analyze, consolidate, trouble-shoot and track all billing data and activity across the distinct Patient Management and Patient Accounting systems in use at Stony Brook, Southampton and Eastern Long Island Hospitals. Successful candidates will have 5 plus years' experience in a claims analysis, billing and/or resolution role for an Acute Care Hospital Revenue Cycle or Patient Accounting Department. Experience working with a Hospital Patient Accounting system such as Cerner/Siemens, Epic, CPSI or Medhost is required.
Duties of an Senior Revenue Cycle Specialist - Transfer Billing may include the following but are not limited to:
Analyze and reconcile demographic, census and charge data for all Stony Brook Medicine transfer cases across multiple, disparate Patient Management and Patient Accounting Systems
Monitor transfer case A/R to ensure accurate, complete and timely billing; report and escalate any exceptions to Business Office Management
Collaborate with Patient Access, Patient Accounting, HIM, Finance and IT departments across all facilities to trouble-shoot and resolve census, charging and billing discrepancies
Update patient demographic and insurance system information as required
Sync patient transfer/bed activity across Patient Management systems, communicate and coordinate any required transfer or discharge transactions to responsible Bed Management/Patient Access staff
Post off-site room and bed and emergency room charges to the Stony Brook Patient Accounting system
Track, trend and report billing status and outcomes to Patient Accounting, Finance and Analytics Departments as requested
Develops, configures and supports software systems and automation tools which optimize and evolve the transfer billing function
Bachelor's degree and 3 plus years Healthcare Revenue Cycle experience analyzing and resolving hospital claims. In lieu of a degree, at least 6 years of Healthcare Revenue Cycle experience analyzing and resolving hospital claims.
Experience working within a Hospital Patient Accounting system such as Cerner/Siemens, Epic, CPSI or Medhost. .
Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and third party reimbursement methodologies.
Working knowledge of inpatient and outpatient billing requirements (UB-04, 837i)
Experience working with CPT/HCPCs and ICD-10 codes.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite. Including: Excel, Word.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
B.S. Accounting/Finance, Health Information Management, Health Administration, Computer Science or related field.
Medical Coding Certification through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) and/or the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA.)
Experience as a Financial or Business Analyst supporting Healthcare Revenue Cycle operations.
Proficiency with MS Access, Visio and/or Power point.
Proficiency with visualization software (Tableau, MS Power BI, etc.)
