The Research in the Umemori Lab: In the brain, information processing occurs at synapses, and defects in synaptic circuit development underlie many neuropsychiatric diseases. The Umemori Lab is therefore interested in the mechanisms that regulate synaptic circuit development and function. Using in vitro and in vivo systems, we identify the manner and molecular cues by which specific and functional synaptic circuits are established in the mammalian brain and provide clues for the treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders associated with abnormal synapse development. We use molecular and cellular, mouse genetic, imaging, physiological, behavioral, and optogenetic techniques. For more information about our lab, please go to https://umemorilab.wordpress.com/
