Position Overview: This 75% time (30 hours per week) position functions as the director of all Continuing Education and Alumni Engagement within the School of Social Work (SSW), which is housed within the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) at the University of Minnesota. The current programs that reside under the Continuing Education program include the Supervision in Social Work Certificate, Interdisciplinary Trauma Studies Certificate, Clinical Practice Series, Trauma-Effective Leadership Certificate, CEU’s on a Stick, and Conversations with Community. In addition, this position also develops new Certificate Programs and Series as indicated by the assessed needs of learners. The current work within the Alumni Engagement Program involves the ongoing development and implementation of a strategic plan to engage SSW alumni, including alumni from all of the School’s educational programs, and to develop means to foster alumni connections with the School.
This position requires a synthesis of skills and experiences across a number of areas including but not limited to: a high level of knowledge and proficiency in social work professional development, critical pedagogy, curriculum development, evaluation of educational programs and adult learning, marketing, assessing learners and alumni needs, program development, management, communications and donor relations, teaching with digital technology, and experience facilitating the development of collaborative relationships.
Strategic Program Planning and Assessment of Educational Needs (25%)
Oversee, develop, and implement two (2) two-year certificate programs including the Trauma Studies Certificate Program and the Supervision in Social Work Certificate Program, as well as the fully online Trauma-Effective Leadership Certificate, CEUs on a Stick, and Conversations with Community series.
Build and maintain relationships with agencies, organizations, institutions and other external stakeholders and learners to identify education and training needs at the local, state and national level.
Independently provide vision and set direction for Continuing Education Program in response to assessed needs of learner community.
Lead the development of new and innovative programs by researching issues and national trends in social work and allied fields.
Assess continuing education needs of organizations, state and federal entities, as well as the community in order to set objectives for developing and implementing programs, and evaluating the outcomes.
Implement best practice research to assess and ensure programs are accessible to all communities, with an emphasis on marginalized and oppressed communities.
Create quarterly and yearly reports evaluating the programmatic elements, future decisions and directions, program development and changes, operations, target audiences, marketing, and financial projections.
Curriculum Development, Delivery, and Marketing (30%)
Develop new courses and program Certificates in response to state, regional, and national need as identified by assessment and market analysis.
Revise all Continuing Education courses based on evaluation data.
Recruit, support, and develop new and returning continuing education instructors.
Develop nation-wide relationships for developing new Certificates or other lifelong learning opportunities.
Manage project/certificate activities and deadlines ensuring accuracy, quality and timeliness.
Develop nation-wide marketing and outreach efforts utilizing social media, print media, and population specific strategies to engage healthcare and social service agencies.
Develop content for marketing materials to gain exposure and provide opportunities for further expansion and relationships with other stakeholders and communities.
Direct the work of staff related to local, state and national continuing education activities.
Market continuing education programs, recruit new participants, troubleshoot and problem solve issues, and train, coach and mentor community instructors.
Attend and provide oversight at key SSW events.
Curriculum Evaluation (10%)
Design, implement and manage the evaluation of continuing education programs (at both the course and Certificate level) and activities.
Supervise, evaluate, and provide feedback to all course instructors to improve course design, teaching, as well as solicit feedback regarding their teaching experience.
Utilize information from evaluation of programs to inform future planning of community education needs.
Evaluate learning outcomes of Certificates for overall efficacy of learning.
Manage key inventory; assign, and track keys as people transition in and out of the school.
Alumni Engagement (25%)
Develop a plan to maintain contact with student cohorts as they finish degree requirements so as to maintain connections between the School and students as they finish degree requirements.
Plan and implement events to attract alumni connections within the School
Develop a plan to reach out to SSW alumni, including alumni from all of the School’s educational programs, and to develop means to foster alumni connections with the School.
Oversee the process of distributing donor communications, such as letters recognizing foundation contributions and other acknowledgements from the Director and the School
Fiscal Management (10%)
Develop and oversee revenue-expense projections and operating budgets for all programs to ensure positive program revenue flow.
Ensure fiscal compliance with all University and CEHD policies and processes.
Meet with the Director of Operations and the Social Work accountant to regularly review budget for accuracy and viability.
A Master's Degree in Social Work, Higher Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or closely related field with at least 4 years of experience, or a BA/BS with at least 6 years of relevant post-degree experience in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation in adult learning.
Experience in developing and evaluating high impact learning for professional practitioners for both in-person and online learning.
Knowledge of best practices and experience in development and implementation of alumni engagement.
Advanced communication and marketing skills using a wide array of communication tools.
Demonstrated ability to organize, problem solve, and follow through on multiple, complex curriculum development projects.
Budgetary experience, including management and forecasting to ensure a positive program revenue flow.
Working understanding of MN Board of Social Work Continuing Education requirements and best practices in professional education.
Ability to assess regional and national social work and allied professional learning needs to inform development of new certificate and alumni programs that are highly responsive to learners’ needs.
Knowledge of learning technologies including best practices and emerging platforms for high engagement online learning.
Strong working knowledge of database management.
