We are seeking an Athletic FieldsGroundskeeper to join our rapidly growing team.
The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is seeking qualified candidates for our Athletic Fields Groundskeeper position where individuals will put their skills and passion for turf grass management into practice. This position is dedicated to creating the best field for athletes, patrons, as well as private event clients like filmingâs, concerts, and corporate events. As an iconic sporting and entertainment venue, we are dedicated to managing a wide range of outside events while committing to a world class quality field for all of our competitions. This position plays a vital role in everything that we do with our field.
Maintain condition and appearance of all athletic fields, intramural fields, and stadiums, including facility landscaped areas (decorative plants, grass areas, and trees).
Prepare fields and stadiums for intercollegiate sports activities, by lining, marking, turf maintenance, and fertilization.
Use and maintain power tools and other equipment.
Prepare soil for planting, manage irrigation schedules, and repair as well as turf wear management. Tarp handling and weather situations. Properly apply all fertilizer mixtures and calibrations to efficiently apply fertilizers/fungicides/insecticides.
Sweep walkways and otherwise maintains paved areas.
Train other athletic fields groundskeepers as required.
Execute routine and preventative maintenance on competition field and all landscaped areas of the facilities.
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
Education: High School not required.
Experience: 2 years.
Understanding and working knowledge of the requirements of a "world class" natural turf playing surface for athletic competitions including football, soccer and/or lacrosse.
Basic knowledge of field sports, gardening and ground maintenance.
Demonstrated use of tools and equipment (including power tools and motorized machinery).
Minimal familiarity with common plant species, landscaping, and cultivation.
Knowledge of standard safety practices using equipment and other requirements for workplace safety.
Understanding of/and implementation of proper field protective cover and recovery after field cover.
Ability to communicate effectively in English.
Valid CA driver's license required. Position will participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System. A copy of DMV record will be required as a final condition of employment. For more information, please visit the policy website.
What We Prefer:
Bachelorâs Degree or Associateâs Degree in Horticulture, Turf Grass Sciences, or related field.
2 years of grounds management experience.
Ability to train and supervise student, temporary, and/or resource workers.
