The University Business Service Center supports a large and diverse customer base including: all executive and administrative units of the university (except for Student & Campus Life), six academic units (the College of Architecture, Art & Planning; School of Industrial and Labor Relations; Law School; University Libraries, eCornell; and SC Johnson College of Business).
The UBSC is a large, highly complex center which provides financial transactions, payroll, and institutional support services across multiple and varied funding sources.
What you will do: In a team-focused, fast-paced, demanding, and continuously evolving environment, the Financial Transaction Representative will serve as a member of the University Business Service Center.
In this role you will:
Process and monitor a wide range of financial transactions and support which includes accounting, procurement, travel and payroll for executive administrative and academic departments and principal investigators.
Also work closely with Financial Services Associate (FSA) and Financial Services Lead (FSL) to ensure compliance and consistency with all transactions.
Must be able to understand and accurately determine method of procurement or payment, account information to transactions and understand impact on financial statements. Responsible for interpreting and advising on an array of university policies & procedures.
Develop and maintain valuable and productive relationships and provide exceptional customer service.
Effectively communicate and work closely with all audiences including daily interaction with all levels of university (i.e. President, Provost, Executive Vice Presidents Offices, etc.).
Potential for Ongoing Remote:
This position is located in Ithaca, New York. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the University's need to limit the number of on-campus employees, the successful applicant will be asked to perform this role remotely at a location of their choice in the United States. This position may be considered for ongoing remote-work status, even once the campus permits more employees to work on campus.
The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside New York State.
What we need: We need an outgoing team player with excellent broad range communication skills who wants to provide exceptional customer service. Ideally, you will have spent time working in a finance or higher education environment where you succeeded tackling challenges in a fast-paced organization. Additionally, you will have:
Associate's degree in accounting or finance plus 2 - 4 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Coursework in Accounting, specifically Principles of Accounting and Business Math, strongly desired.
Must have excellent customer service skills and communication skills (written/verbal) with a broad range of people to build and maintain effective working relationships.
Accuracy, attention to detail, analytical, time management, problem-solving, and organizational skills are critical. Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced, customer-oriented, team-based work environment.
Must be able to effectively organize, plan, and prioritize multiple competing work activities under pressure. Exercise sound judgment and decision making in accomplishing a high volume of transactions and communications that are urgent or of a sensitive or confidential nature.
Ability to take direction from more than one individual.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion. An overall positive attitude and demonstrated professionalism always is essential. Must be comfortable working in an environment where change in process/procedures is the norm.
Experience with standard office productivity tools (Microsoft Office suite - Excel, Word, etc.) as required.

Understanding of Cornell policies and procedures in the areas of purchasing, accounting, accounts payable, payroll and travel preferred. Knowledge of Cornell on-line systems would be helpful: Kuali Financial System (KFS), Oracle Analytics dashboard, e-mail/calendaring, Workday, OneNote, SharePoint, SpendViz and Concur Travel system.
