The MacroSystems Ecology Lab (https://www.clu-lab.com/) in the Department of Ecology, Evolution, & Organismal Biology at Iowa State University has an opening for a postdoc scholar in Ecological Modeling. Â We are seeking an individual to work on modeling representation and quantification of the coupled biogeochemical and hydrological cycles. The successful candidate will participate in an interdisciplinary research team to investigate the natural and anthropogenic impacts on crop production, carbon and nutrient coupling, and land-air exchange of greenhouse gases, by using ecological big data and modeling approaches. The postdoc scholar is expected to independently develop and implement the spatially explicit process-based land ecosystem model for assessment at regional and global scales. The specific duties include cross-scale data synthesis, model improvement, simulation, data-model integration, and application of machine learning or artificial intelligence. The postdoc will be encouraged to pursue new research direction (e.g., participate in development of research proposals), and will help manage the lab and interact with graduate and undergraduate students.
Salary commensurate with training and research experience plus health benefit, mentoring by and collaboration with senior research personnel from a multidisciplinary team, office space and computer facilities, and coverage of research and related travel expenses.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
Â A Ph.D. degree from an accredited institution in Ecosystem Ecology, Biogeochemistry, Ecohydrology, Atmospheric Science, Agriculture, Forestry, remote sensing or related fields with experience of terrestrial ecosystem modeling is required.
Â Preference will be given to candidates with experience and background on biogeochemistry/ecosystem modeling, remote sensing and GIS, geospatial analysis, and proficient coding skills (in at least one of R, Python, C or C++, MATLAB).Â
Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, record of research publications in refereed journals of high quality, and a demonstrated ability to function well within multidisciplinary teams are required. Â
The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States by the date appointment is scheduled to begin and must be able to communicate in English.
