Join our team as the Nurse Practitioner!
The Nurse Practitioner will join a team dedicated to supporting clinical researchers across USC schools. Today we are expanding to continue meeting the health needs of our community. The Nurse Practitioner, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team, is responsible for providing complete clinical care for patients. Lead and assists investigators and their research teams in conducting clinical research while adhering to good clinical practices, patient care standards as well as institutional policies and procedures. Provides a range of study-related services at the highest professional level of licensure. Supports all phases of research studies ranging from participant recruitment, assessment, treatment, data collection, and follow-up for enrolled patients. Provides input to principal investigators, staff nurses and patients that effects clinical research studies from the initial protocol design to completion of study. Participates in problem solving to provide solutions to any operational impediments and develop new strategies to improve execution of research.Â Provides technical support and guidance to other nurses and coordinators in the care of patients. This role will have the opportunity to work on studies of varying disease types.
A nurse practitioner is an advanced practice nurse that helps with all aspects of patient care and research-related patient care, including:
Provide general and preventative care, including diagnosis, treating illness or adverse sevents related to research procedures, and order laboratory tests.
Perform physical exams and clinical assessments as required by the protocol
Educate patients about preventative care and prescribed treatments
Prescribe medications if licensing and credentially allows
Phlebotomy, vital signs, and other tests specific to the study.
May administer treatments specific to the study.
Collects and processes specimens for transport to laboratories.
Monitor and manage patient's response to treatment and/or medications, adherence to protocol's schedule, need to reevaluate treatment and specific medical concerns.
Monitors patient's status throughout the study. Reviews and evaluates healthstatus, lab findings and reactions.
May supervise the work of one or more other research nurses
Functions as liaison with patient's personal physician, other research studies, affiliated hospitals and other medical personnel.
Schedules tests and follows through on completion and return of results.
Interacts with patients and families to ensure study compliance, obtain information and provide emotional support
Manages data collection. Obtains, verifies, organizes, codes and enters data. Completes forms and maintains files.
Coordinates patient recruitment. Perform the informed consent procedure, verifies eligibility, ensures that all applicable forms and other required paperwork are completed.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

Education, Training and Experience:
Possession of current certificate of completion from a Nurse Practitioner program
California Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse license required by start date
Prior experience as a registered nurse and/or nurse practitioner preferred
Minimum Experience: 5 years, Combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experienceMinimum Field of Expertise: Possession of current certificate of completion from a Nurse Practitioner program. Current and valid California State RN and Nurse Practitioner licenses, and Basic Cardiac Life Support certification. Clinical nursing experience.
