Dept Marketing Statement Under the direction of the Disability Resource Center (DRC) Auxiliary Services Manager, the DRC Exam Accommodations Coordinator acts as the DRC liaison with all academic departments and ensures legal compliance with regulations under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Using knowledge and skills as a qualified, experienced professional in the disabilities field or related field, deals with a wide range of accommodation issues on a case by case basis. For complex exam accommodation issues, the DRC Exam Accommodations Coordinator will consult with the supervisor/DRC Auxiliary Services Manager and DRC Director and or the student's Service Coordinator within the Disability Resource Center (DRC). Accommodation decisions can impact University compliance and liability under federal and state disability law and regulations and University Policy. Careful analysis and following University protocol is required
The Disability Resource Center (DRC) leads UC Santa Cruz in providing educational equity and a welcoming environment for students with disabilities. The DRC identifies legally mandated accommodations that address barriers related to disabilities and work with faculty and staff to provide support to students with disability exam accommodations. The DRC educates campus professional staff, student staff and faculty on disability diversity and equal educational access. The team ensures compliance with State, Federal and local laws and ensures compliance with UC policies.

Job Duties 30%: Exam Accommodation Liaison for DRC and Divisions
Manages accommodated exam responsibilities in coordination with other UCSC exam coordinator professionals and with the student's DRC Service Coordinator.
Maintains regular contact with academic division/department exam accommodation coordinators.
Actively supports the ADA interactive process.
Troubleshoots issues for faculty related to exam accommodations.
Troubleshoots any problems (instructor concerns, students with exam scheduling problems, proctor errors, etc.) and documents any notable interactions and case history.
Advises on exam accommodation needs with professors, including last minute adjustments for students with temporary accommodations keeping Service Coordinators in the communication loop.
Actively communicates with ProctorU and other proctoring services to ensure compliance and a positive student exam experience.
Consults with Service Coordinators to ensure that accommodation compliance and effective communication is managed.
Communicates with instructors/DRC Service Coordinator and DRC Director when there are reports of exam irregularities.
Thoroughly documents communications, adjustments and actions related to exam accommodations across campus.
Elevates difficult issues to leadership that are outside of the scope of the position's judgement and authority.
Provides a clear and transparent process for requesting needed technology and resources for accessible exams.
20%: Training and Workshops
Regularly consult with divisional or department exam coordinators to ensure regular communication and updates with training needs.
Responsible for regular training sessions for all exam coordinators (professional staff) and proctors (student staff) on required and related DRC accommodations, ADA and other compliance issues and reporting, and maintaining academic integrity.
Handles questions from exam coordinators about job duties, business protocol, or academic integrity.
Develops online training programs to be offered through UC Learning Center.
Creates and provides training documentation and FAQs for professional and student staff.
Annually updates procedures and guidelines.
20%: Supervision and Resource Management
Responsible for hiring and supervision of student employees assigned for accommodations support, including setting work schedules, assigning work, timesheet approval and maintaining an appropriate, productive and safe workspace.
Develops training materials and trains student employees on access legal obligations, equipment and general information of programs overseen by position.
Ensures exam accommodations are provided according to DRC Service Coordinator approved exam accommodations.
Plans, manages and implements specialized exam accommodations including arrangement of exam technology and other exam accommodation resources.
Supervises scribes and readers and may manage a pool of proctors that address barriers to the exam process.
15%: Research and Reporting
Researches and keeps apprised of all new changes, developments and best practices in the field of higher education as applicable to functions.
Evaluates the effectiveness of the program and creates reports for DRC leadership.
Develop recommendations for ensuring academic integrity of exam sites and materials and safe testing accommodation environments.
Compiles data and assists in the completion of reports to evaluate accommodations.
Develops mechanism for tracking accommodation data from divisions.
10%: Accessible Technology and Classroom Accommodation Support
Assists in managing accommodation requests with respect to accessible technology and classroom environments to effectively manage DRC resources.
Acts as backup in absence of primary coordinator.
Performs other duties, as assigned, as needed to support the DRC's mission and goals.
Education: Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Strong knowledge of the legal framework involving accommodations for students with disabilities through state and federal laws and regulations.
Thorough knowledge of procedures for assessing and determining disability accommodation issues, including the Disability Compliance Office procedures.
Thorough knowledge of assessment, accommodation, and intervention techniques involved in employee's specialty, for example, learning disorders, mobility disability, visual impairment, etc.
Ability to train student proctors and professional exam coordinators in each division.
Highly skilled using MS Excel, Google Forms, Google Docs, Google Sheets.
Ability to quickly learn and run reports in various campus information systems (typically AIS, Infoview or like tools).
Demonstrated judgment and skills in data analysis to support critical decisions that may impact legal compliance.
Demonstrated ability to recognize when to elevate concerns/issues to supervisors and stakeholders (DRC Service Coordinator, DRC Director, Division Leadership, Instructor of Record, Student, ADA Compliance Officer).
Skilled in researching topics such as best practices, legal settlements, court cases, and Office for Civil Rights Resolution Letters.
Ability to effectively work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and to create a welcoming environment.
