A research assistant position is available in the Walker lab, in the Department of Radiation Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, OR. The Walker Lab studies the immune modulating effects of radiotherapy, and how combinations of immunotherapy, chemotherapy and radiation therapy can be used to restore T cell function. In addition, we have a research program exploring the use of novel radiation sensitizing agents in the treatment of solid tumors.
We are looking for a Research Assistant to provide support to this research effort. The candidate will assist investigators with preparation of research tools and reagents, processing cell and tissue samples from mouse and humans, analysis of data from in-vitro and in-vivo experiments, animal husbandry and mouse colony management, and perform general laboratory duties.
Bachelor's Degree with coursework in immunology; OR Associate's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience
General knowledge in all aspects of cell biology, issue culture, and flow cytometry
Exposure to immunological research techniques
Ability to prioritize a variety of tasks and ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment
Strong organizational (data management) and problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal communication skills, team player
Ability to follow direction yet work independently when necessary
Familiarity with tumor-immunotherapy
Prior laboratory experience
Immunology background and experience with murine cancer models
Experience with animal handling, flow cytometry, flowjo data analysis, programming in R
