The Assistant Director of Development for University Initiatives secures private and voluntary support for UT Arlington from alumni and friends. Identify, qualify and cultivate potential major gift donors and prepare solicitations for those individuals; solicit them with volunteer or academic leadership assistance if necessary; ensure proper recognition and stewardship is given to those who give. Collaborate with colleagues in University Advancement to secure gifts for University-wide funding priorities and manage special projects related to stewardship and pipeline development as assigned. Build and manage a portfolio of 100-150 potential or actual donors with a focus on major gift qualification.
Responsible for the development and management of a portfolio of 100-150 potential or actual donors with a focus on qualifying major gift prospects. Make personal contact with prospects to build relationships and secure philanthropic support. Develop solicitation strategies that advance the pipeline for major gifts by identifying, cultivating, and solicitation. Design, implement, and manage donor relations and engagement strategies for select donors and special projects. Prospects may include endowment donors and leadership annual gift donors to enhance existing relationships and to build the major gift prospect pipeline. Work closely with the Associate Vice President for Development and University Initiatives to complete development projects related to University Initiatives. Work collaboratively with colleagues in University Advancement and across campus to determine funding priorities and potential funding sources for University priorities. Also work closely with the Prospect Management and Research team to identify prospects and perform regular portfolio maintenance. Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree. Two (2) years of experience in higher education. Applicant must have excellent organizational and communication skills or the equivalent experience. Applicant must be a self-starter with an extremely high attention to detail, while possessing the ability to prioritize workload for timely completion of important tasks. Must be able to maintain confidential information and work unconventional hours, weekends and holidays when events require it. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple project deadlines is paramount. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Minimum three (3) years of experience in a development/fundraising, university, or non-profit environment. Advanced knowledge of computer technology, including the ability to use specialized software packages for spreadsheets, word processing and database management. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and other common Office systems. Willingness to learn new software including database programs and preference given to candidates with CRM expertise, including Raiser's Edge. Ability to handle multiple tasks in a busy office and environment with a professional demeanor. Excellent customer service skills. Outstanding time management skills are essential and ability to handle a stressful and fast paced environment.
Knowledge, skills and abilities: Customer Retention Management software. Ability to work effectively across University departments and units.
