Ohio Wesleyan University seeks an experienced and strategic Assistant Director of Athletics for Operations and Event Management. The Assistant Director of Athletics serves as a member of the senior athletics administration for an athletics department that values competitive success, academic success, and maximizing the full potential of all student-athletes.
This person will work in conjunction with the Director of Athletics to provide strategic leadership and vision to the athletics department, including but not limited to developing and implementing policies and procedures for the department that ensures its administrative and operational effectiveness and day-to-day operations with the primary priority on facilities operations and events management for all 24 sports. The Assistant Athletics Director will provide strategic planning for all facilities scheduling and game management operations, student staffing and as well as critical areas of student-athlete education and retention. Represent the athletics department as appropriate on campus, in the conference, and with the NCAA.
This role requires a minimum of three years of professional experience in progressively responsible athletics administrative roles. A successful candidate for the position must have:
Comprehensive knowledge of intercollegiate athletics programs preferably at the DIII level.
Demonstrated experience in:
Creating and implementing policies and procedures that ensure equal access to facilities and support spaces in terms of scheduling, staffing, video streaming, and game day experiences for all teams and student-athletes The development of robust administrative support, and efficient department operations is key.
Ability to work with coaches on a daily basis managing day-to-day department operations, including contest and facility management.
Coordinating all video streaming via Stretch internet for game day streaming.
Developing, implementing and assessing student development, retention and educational programs.
Budget management and long-range planning.
Ability to develop effective relationships and collaborate with all departments across the university and to work effectively with a wide range of people,
An ability to work with all coaches scheduling practices, contests, and event coverage in a fair and equitable manner.
Ability to think and plan strategically in order to develop and implement short and long-range plans that meet program needs.
Ability to organize facility set-up and take down on a daily, weekly, seasonal basis. Set priorities to achieve objectives and to manage multiple, diverse assignments/projects.
A track record of strong and positive management experience.
Ability to analyze and evaluate operations and develop creative solutions and make sound decisions.
Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication and listening skills.
A strong work ethic and the ability to work autonomously.
Understanding of the position and responsibilities for evening and weekend work schedules is a must.
A sense of humor and a dynamic, welcoming personality.

Qualifications: A Master’s Degree is preferred; Bachelor’s Degree required, demonstrated athletics operations and sporting events management experience required. All candidates should also possess an understanding of the role athletics plays in a rigorous academic setting and an ability to counsel, negotiate and lead all coaches in all aspects of facilities operations. Candidates must have a commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of Ohio Wesleyan University, the North Coast Athletic Conference, and the NCAA. Effective written and oral communication skills are required.
