1. Maintain cleanliness of floors, walls, tables, countertops, sinks, cabinets, equipment, and instruments in the necropsy, cooler, digester, and loading dock areas. 2. Assist with the performance of necropsies, including preliminary setup and opening of the animal carcasses to expose areas specified by the pathologist. 3. Maintain supplies, solutions, fixatives, and equipment as necessary. 4. Provide solutions, fixatives, supplies, and equipment needed for performing necropsy. 5. Disarticulate and dispose of carcasses and tissue after necropsies, including the operation of an incinerator. 6. Assist in collection of tissue samples, removal of organs, and identification of samples to be sent to diagnostic laboratories. 7. Maintain cleanliness of uniforms worn by pathologist, students, and other personnel in the necropsy area. 8. Ensure that all safety regulations and federal guidelines for waste disposal are observed. 9. Assist in coordinating research projects and labs when necropsy is involved; and in some projects perform the necropsies. 10. Assist with the instruction of research staff, veterinary students, and veterinary technician students through demonstrations of correct procedure and sample collection. 11. Assist in dissecting animals, collection of tissue samples, and removal of organs. 12. Complete forms on necropsies and on tissues being sent to diagnostic laboratories. 13. Prepare slide fixations on tissues. 14. Perform related duties as assigned.
1. High school diploma or equivalent. 2. Ability to lift, move, or carry up to and occasionally over 50 lbs. -or- Any equivalent combination of related experience and/or education approved by the Department of Human Resources Management.
1. Bachelor's degree. 2. Experience with laboratory animal care and handling.
