The Department of Cell & Developmental Biology (CDB) at the University of Michigan Medical School (Ann Arbor) seeks a highly motivated individual to work as an entry-level Research Laboratory Technician at the Associate level. The desired candidate would work under the guidance of the PI and/or a postdoctoral fellow in a cell biology laboratory that studies cell signaling. This is a great opportunity to learn how to manage a research lab and acquire techniques and approaches in biomedical research as well as critical analytic skills, and to contribute toward original research.
The successful applicant will be responsible for general lab management, including ordering and organizing lab supplies and reagents, preparing shared lab solutions and reagents, disposing biomedical waste, sending lab glassware for cleaning, autoclaving, and maintaining a small colony of genetically modified mice, including the breeding and genotyping of these mice. The applicant will also generate new lab tools and reagents, conduct and troubleshoot experiments, and analyze and record the resultant data in order to contribute to the completion of project goals.
A two-year minimum commitment required.
HS Diploma or Assoc Degree and 0-1 year experience required.
Applicants should have some relevant research experience.
Applicants must be willing to work with genetically modified mice.
Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills, as well as interpersonal skills contributing to a strong team environment, are required.
A BS or BA degree in cell biology/ biochemistry or related discipline is preferred.
Experience in working with genetically modified mice is highly desired.
