The College of Arts and Science is seeking a talented Assistant Dean for New Students. This individual develops programs and manages a staff of seven that support the new student experience at the College of Arts and Science. This includes overseeing transition programs from high school to college, as well as providing leadership on success and retention initiatives for new and transfer students. The Assistant Dean promotes opportunities for leadership development and engagement in co-curricular activities that foster student success. This position oversees advising and other programs for new students to enhance academic success, and reduce student attrition by engaging with new students and faculty to create meaningful partnerships. The Assistant Dean identifies issues and barriers to success encountered by new students, and collaborates with Associate Dean for Students, Associate Dean for Advising, Assistant Dean for Academic Support, and other University offices to formulate and implement ameliorating strategies. The Assistant Dean serves as a liaison with university services such as Wellness, Counselling, and Residential Life for CAS students in need. Coordinate efforts with Assistant Dean for Academic Support to ensure CAS participation in any all-University efforts for student success and retention. Direct all research and evaluation of student success initiatives for CAS, proposing best practice solutions to meet university expectations.
Required Education: Master's Degree in Arts or related field.
Preferred Education: Degree in liberal arts; terminal degree
Required Experience: 5+ years in student services
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of student services issues, especially as relating to first year experience. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is essential.
