The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Mississippi State University invites applications for non-tenure track, nine-month faculty positions, under the administrative supervision of the head of the department. An Instructor in ME is an engineer and a scholar with a strong interest in teaching, supervising undergraduate students, and providing service to the department. The successful candidate will be expected to make significant contributions to the department's teaching and service responsibilities.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers an ABET-accredited undergraduate program, as well as graduate studies leading to M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, In addition, the department offers graduate distance M.S. and Ph.D. programs. The Department has approximately 940 undergraduate and 110 graduate students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are illustrations of the various types of duties assigned to this position, The absence of specific statements of duties does not exclude those duties from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment of the position. 1. Teach a variety of undergraduate courses in Mechanical Engineering. 2. Engage in routine departmental, college, and university service functions and committees, as requested. 3. Advise undergraduate student design teams and organizations. 4. Participate in required scholarly activities as part of the College's accreditation standards. 5. Engage in other related duties, as assigned.
A master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field is required. Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary.
ABDs or degree pending considered (all but DISS):
PhD and teaching experience with undergraduate students is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The successful candidate must have a thorough knowledge of the field and a willingness to participate collegially in a broad department. Candidate must be able to communicate that knowledge in the classroom environment to students as well as to other important groups through scholarship and service.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
The successful candidate must be able to work in normal working conditions for office, classroom, and lab settings, and conduct service in the profession.
