The Accounting Specialist II is an integral part of The Hutch Accounting team, which has a wide range of responsibilities relating to all aspects The Hutchs finances including financial reporting, policy setting, internal and data controls and transaction processing. The team works closely with multiple groups within The Hutch to ensure accurately and timely financial information. The position reports directly to the Accounting-Billing Supervisor.
Process and distribute all types of grant & contract or miscellaneous billing
Serve as a backup for Special invoicing
Upload invoices into the sponsors portals when required
Respond to basic, as well as moderately complex internal & external customer email inquiries and requests
Ability to perform basic collection, e.g., send out first level collection notices to Sponsors
Work with cash receipt desk to ensure accurate payment application
Review and prepare bank deposits and serve as backup to Cash Applications Specialist as needed
Organizes and maintains retention files for cash deposits as needed
Assist in responding to auditor requests for reporting, documentation, or policies and procedures.
Assist with ongoing maintenance and configuration of financial systems
Actively look for opportunities to improve existing processes
Ad hoc projects as and when required
Perform other responsibilities as required
High school graduation or GED. Bachelors degree preferred in related field, but not required
Minimum of two years bookkeeping, accounts receivable, cash collection, banking or financial experience
Strong technology skills including efficiency with keyboard and mouse as well as experience with desktop applications including MS Excel, MS Word and MS Outlook
Must be willing to develop expertise in FMS PeopleSoft and related queries and standard reports, e.g. invoices, journal entries. Training will be provided.
Person must be diligent and self motivated with attention to detail
Ability to consistently and accurately process transactions
Must have excellent work habits, including organization and timeliness
Should have strong interpersonal communication skills and desire to work in team-oriented environments
