The Cedars-Sinai Infectious and Immunologic Diseases Research Center, the Pediatrics department and the Arditi Lab are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate III to provide research support! We are led by Moshe Arditi, MD, director of the Infectious and Immunological Diseases Research Center and the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, investigates immunity and host-pathogen interactions as they relate to acute and chronic inflammatory diseases, with a focus on the cardiovascular inflammation and lung inflammation/injury and gut microbiome as well as gender differences. The Arditi Laboratory particularly investigates the immunobiology of the cardiovascular lesions in the Kawasaki Disease vasculitis mouse model as well as abdominal aorta aneurysm and atherosclerosis mouse models. The lab also investigates the basic mechanism of NLRP3 inflammasome activation, and IL-1beta production. Finally, the laboratory also investigates host-pathogen interactions in acute lung infection and injury models, as well as the role of pathogenic Th17 cells in inflammatory bowel disease models and in various autoimmune disease models.

Under guidance, the incumbent works closely with the PI, providing technical and/or administrative support in large laboratories and complex projects. May be requested by PI to take on specific supervisory activities, and provide administrative leadership, and/or technical guidance. Responsibilities include performing basic research such as molecular biology, cell culture, RNA and DNA extraction, quantitative RT-PCR, blood separation, flow cytometry, immunostainings, ELISA, PCR, Western blot/Immunoblot and histology and imaging techniques. Mouse work experience is required. The RA may develop hypothesis and assist in planning steps for the investigative process. Will review and remain current on literature as it relates to clinical/research study. Coordinates all lab activities, including grant proposals preparation and creating independent presentations. Not responsible for generating grant funds.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
With minimum supervision performs a variety of experimental protocols and routine/non-routine laboratory tasks and procedures.
Perform cell culture and molecular biology research on a project by project basis.
Responsible for accurately recording work performed including results and methodology.
Trains and collaborates with lab staff in specialized procedures, equipment, and theoretical concepts behind unique tests.
Assists other lab members with experiments involving mice.
Performs in vitro and in vivo experiments.
May assist to the preparation of manuscripts and grants submission by describing methods, specialized techniques and preparing data.
Keeps abreast of new and improved techniques.
Ensures that all laboratory activities are carried out in compliance with each procedure(s) by utilizing safety procedures and guidelines in handling, storage, and disposal of bio-hazardous, infectious, and toxic material.
May coordinate and make independent presentations.
Orients new staff to day-to-day lab operations and procedures.
Bachelor of Science Degree, required.
Master of Science Degree, preferred.
Three to five (3-5) years of relevant laboratory experience.
Experience in standard molecular biology techniques, including DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, plasmid DNA prep and qPCR
Experience in cell culture work and sterile techniques Experience in Western blotting and ELISA Experience in handling mice is required.
Experience in histology/imaging techniques including quantitative bright-field and fluorescence microscopy is preferred.
Experience with Flow cytometry is a plus.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent organization skills and detailed.
Must possess technical skills to include, but not limited to, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Ability to research the literature, develop and implement new laboratory procedures and protocols.
