UCI MIND is an Organized Research Unit focusing on basic and clinical research in the fields of brain aging and cognitive disorders. Under supervision of the Principal Investigator and senior lab personnel, the Staff Research Associate will conduct functional and structural MRI scans of the brain and collect physiological data for a human subject's research study in the Vascular Senescence and Cognition (VaSC) Lab. As a member of the neuroimaging team, they will be responsible for all MRI scan-related data, including uploading, organizing, and maintaining scan image files, initial image QC and preprocessing, and for ensuring the timely completion of final processing and submission of data from team members. Additionally, the incumbent will participate in study coordination activities to include participant screening and enrollment and scheduling study-related activities. Incumbent will be safety-trained and certified to operate the MRI scanner at the UCI FIBRE facility. Additional responsibilities include maintenance of equipment, monitoring inventory and ordering supplies, and training other research personnel on data collection procedures. This position presents the opportunity to learn advanced neuroimaging data analysis methods and contribute to publications and other academic activities.
Bachelor's degree in related field (e.g., Psychology, Neuroscience, Cognitive Science etc.).
1 year of experience operating or assisting during MRI scans.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work well with others and collaborate.
Ability to organize work, pay close attention to detail, and prioritize workload to meet deadlines and short-and long-term study goals.
Ability to assess problems quickly and make sound and ethical decisions.
Demonstrated ability to use a computer and software, including Microsoft Office Suite General knowledge of experimental and statistical procedures.
Working knowledge of basic neuroanatomy (ability to identify major brain regions on scan images).
Experience with structural and functional image processing (e.g., MATLAB, bash scripting, fMRI toolboxes etc.).
MR-operator certification (UCI FIBRE preferred).
UCI-specific policies and procedures, including UCI FIBRE MRI safety & operator training.
Special Conditions Preferred:
May work some weekends, early mornings or evenings depending on timing of experimental procedures.
May require occasional commute between University of Southern California and UC Irvine campuses.
