Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Laboratory Technician for the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Conducts lab experiments.
Supports the drafting of manuscripts/grants/protocols/patents.
Manages supply chain/equipment.
Technicians will also be exposed to practical skills in regulatory science and on the preparation of biologic medicines under GMP guidelines.
General Summary Under the immediate guidance and direction of a senior technician or other supervisor, provides routine technical support relative to scientific research work or projects of a laboratory and/or teaching program.
Collects and completes basic preparation of samples and specimens.
Performs standard and repetitive physical, chemical, and biological tests on materials, substances, and/or living subjects.
Prepares media, substances, solutions, and reagents and performs related duties as required.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a high school/vocational school education or equivalent with coursework completed in the relevant science area(s) and one year of research study experience. An equivalent amount of college-level study in an appropriate science curriculum may be substituted for the experience. Requires a practical understanding and a working knowledge of basic scientific techniques, and the ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds. Requires the ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non-computerized formats. Must be able to communicate effectively. Will be required to participate in required occupational health and safety programs. May require a valid driver’s license, two years driving experience, and successful completion of the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course. Regular workweek may include evening and/or weekend work.
Bachelors (or equivalent) in biomedical engineering, microbiology, biochemistry or related discipline.
Two years of relevant lab-based experience.
Previous experience with the following abilities is preferred: cell/tissue culture, plasmid construct design, plasmid purifications, transfections/transductions, PCR and RT-PCR
Knowledge of software for statistical tools, visual aid preparation, and complex data analysis (eg FloJo) is desired.
Valid driver’s license is required.
Must be able to independently conduct literature surveys and understand technical documents.
Must be computer literate with experience in data analysis, manuscript preparation, and technical writing.
Experience with Microsoft Office (or equivalent) tools for work processing, presentation preparation, and data analysis is required.
Ability to work in a lab environment including use of chemical and biological hazardous materials.
Must be comfortable conducting research with rodents and clear relevant medical tests.
Must learn and follow all relevant safety regulations associated with working in lab environment.
