The Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC) is located12 miles westof the OHSU main campus, and sits on 162 acres of land featuring forested areas, research and administration buildings, indoor and outdoor animal housing, a pond, and 2-mile perimeter walking path. Our mission is to improve human health and the quality of life through the support of nonhuman primate research programs that advance our knowledge of the causes, preventions, treatments, and cures of debilitating diseases.
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant with background in a science and engineering field who is interested in working on research designed to reveal the cortical underpinnings of sensory perception. Duties will include one or more of the following: programming, biomedical instrumentation, development of devices for studies in brain science, and analysis of electrical, optical, or MRI data.
Preferred candidate will have a bachelors degree in engineering, computer science, math, physics or neuroscience. Familiarity with electronics, software/hardware interfaces, matlab, and/or python, 3D printing is a plus.
Bachelors Degree (4 yr) with major courses in field of research/No Experience, OR AA (2 yr) and 3 years of relevant experience
Ability to work independently, work effectively in a team, and prioritize work demands
Good problem-solving skills
Able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
Bachelors Degree (4 yr) in Biomedical Engineering or Neuroscience or other related scientific field with major courses in computer programing and the physical sciences
At least 6 months of applied BME experience
Experience with neurophysiological, intrinsic optical imaging, fMRI, or other sensory systems scientific approaches
Background in electrical engineering and computer programing
Competence in matlab, python, and other programing languages
Knowledge of cameras/optics and machine vision
Knowledge of computational neuroscience approaches
Competence with 3D printing
