This Histotechnologist will be responsible for:
Embedding, cutting, mounting, staining and coverslipping tissue specimens from surgical and autopsy cases. Redecalcifying bone specimens and cuts blocks up to 1 1/2" x 2 1/2", as necessary.
Performing general immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, muscle enzyme histochemistry, and all classes of special stains, according to physician requisitions, established protocols and scheduled rotations. As necessary, stains cytology specimens. Preparing laboratory reagents and stains.
Performing a variety of laboratory duties, such cleaning and maintaining equipment and work areas, recording temperatures of temperature-controlled areas and equipment, and other related tasks.
Logs and accessions specimens and orders laboratory procedures on departmental computer system.
Troubleshooting in Histology as appropriate. May provide guidance and orientation to new staff, Histology students and department trainees. Introducing special staining techniques, preparing related chemicals and instructing other technicians as needed.
Ensuring laboratory's compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements, and Hospital and departmental policies, including safety, chemical hygiene and infection control. Developing procedures and/or following established procedures for quality control and quality assurance, and assuring continual implementation.
In order to qualify, you must have:
The level of knowledge typically acquired through completion of an Associate's degree in a biological science and three to four years' experience. A Bachelor's Degree in a biological science is strongly preferred.
The analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.
The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and provide empathy in difficult interpersonal situations.
Current registration as a Histology Technician by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or eligible.
Must be able to work day shift.
