The Department of Psychiatry within the University of Michigan Medical School is seeking an experienced, highly motivated, and organized individual to join the TRAILS Program (Transforming Research into Action to Improve the Lives of Students) as a Community Outreach Coordinator / School Site Coordinator on a U.S. Department of Education (DoE) grant-funded initiative. The initiative aims to improve the accessibility and quality of behavioral health programming among four Washtenaw County schools (Lincoln Middle School, Lincoln High School, Ypsilanti Community Middle School, and Ypsilanti Community High School); and thus to improve students’ academic and health outcomes, increase parent and community engagement, align and coordinate partner efforts, and assist families in receiving the necessary resources to support the emotional wellbeing of their children.
This position will be dedicated to Ypsilanti Community Middle School. Along with the broader project team, the Community Outreach Coordinator / School Site Coordinator will work in close collaboration with personnel in the schools, as well as with the Washtenaw Intermediate School District Office and also with local not-for-profit health organizations, including Project Healthy Schools, and the Regional Alliance for Healthy Schools. The Community Outreach Coordinator / School Site Coordinator will be an employee of the University of Michigan and will work in tandem with other DoE School Site Coordinators and project partners to support the coordination of existing programs and services and will assist with development, implementation, evaluation, and oversight of new programs and services, based on needs assessment data collected from each school site. The physical location of work to be performed will include both the U-M Medical School Campus, at one or more school sites, and in the community. Adequate office space will be provided to enable successful completion of work objectives.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Support ongoing data collection efforts utilizing surveys, focus groups, and other methods to gather information from stakeholders including: students, families, school staff, and community organizations
Provide input to inform development of a sustainable health promotion strategy for students and families based on needs assessment data
Provide training, consultation, or technical support to school professionals named on the work plan as site partners, on evidence-based behavioral health practices for use with students
Under the direction of clinical research supervisors, assist with the development and implementation of a Social Emotional Learning Curriculum for school instructional staff and an Authentic Family Engagement Curriculum for community parents/caregivers
Develop and support implementation of an effective referral process that promotes programs and services offered at school and community organizations
Maintain strong working relationships with school administrators, teachers, school staff, students, and families
Complete reports and collect data in order to effectively plan, inform decision-making, and promote accountability by designated deadlines
Coordinate and facilitate collaborative meetings between school personnel, U-M staff and faculty, parents, and community partners to align programming to a sustainable health promotion plan
Serve as the primary point of contact between staff, school administration, U-M programs, and community partners
Follow school and district policies and procedures for safe program operation
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year college or university, majoring in Social Work, Education, Child Development, Public Health, Human Services, or other related field
Minimum of 5 years’ professional experience in schools or community setting
History of working effectively with various community stakeholders including administrators, teachers, parents, and students
Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Powerpoint, Excel) and web-based platforms, including Google-based applications (Drive, Sheets), Box, Slack, and other task management tools
Available to work a flexible schedule that will occasionally include evenings or weekends
Master’s degree in Social Work, Education, Public Health, or other related field
Experience with school-based integrated services and/or collaborative services
Experience in program design, management, and/or community organizing
Experience working in schools or the nonprofit service area of Eastern Washtenaw County
Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm; Available to work a flexible schedule that will occasionally include evenings or weekends
This is not a remote position, however, due to COVID-19, the responsibilities of this role will be performed remotely until notified.
