The Institute for Water Resources (IWR) and the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife (FW) are seeking collaborative, energetic, and creative candidates for the position of Communications Manager I. The successful candidate would develop creative communication strategies for unit programs; develop communications including infographics, articles and press releases to be shared within the MSU community and externally; maintaining and updating websites; coordinate with ANR and MSU communication teams to manage media inquiries, press releases, direct social media content; collaborate with faculty and staff in developing content for external communication materials for stakeholders and partners, prospective students, alumni, potential donors, and funding agencies, including infographics, newsletters, flyers/brochures, etc.; seek and identify good public relation opportunities within the units.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Journalism, Telecommunications, or Public Relations; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in public and media relations, composing, editing and publication production, news, broadcasting, and print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; web design; presentation; spreadsheet and/or database software; public presentation; or radio production; or computer programming/technology; experience managing content for social media channels; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience or education in field of ecology, natural resources, water resources and/or previous research program communications; photo and video-editing skills; experience and knowledge in copywriting, proofreading and editing; excellent portfolio with proven track record of successful project management examples; excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills; familiarity and proficiency with social media platforms; graphic design experience with Adobe software, including Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop, Microsoft Publisher, Powerpoint or other popular design software; editing and article development for press releases; familiarity and proficiency with social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, Hootsuite and You Tube.
