COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST FOR OPEN LEARNING , Open Learning , to initiate and manage diverse, complex editorial, social media, event planning, and media relations projects. Responsibilities include researching, writing, editing, and developing articles and blog posts on newsworthy projects/initiatives/learners; managing content flow to MIT News, Medium publication, and social media channels; serving as primary content creator and account manager for multiple Open Learning social media accounts; collaborating with the associate director to develop and refine strategy, including content planning and analytics; helping develop press lists and media pitches and coordinating with journalists in consultation with the associate director; website content development and maintenance; monitoring news media coverage and producing reports; developing and executing strategies for events; and managing strategy and outreach for conferences/symposia/academic events, including securing speaker slots for Open Learning leadership and managing presence at key events.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : bachelor's degree; at least three years' experience in a communications position, including at least two managing social media channels for a business/organization; excellent organizational, time-management, writing, and editing skills; detail orientation; ability to prioritize, juggle multiple projects on deadline, and work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively in team settings; excellent judgment and discretion with sensitive materials; experience working with reports and building media lists and success placing earned media articles; and experience working with senior-level officials and faculty. PREFERRED : proficiency with project management systems (e.g., Trello), website content management systems (e.g., Drupal), media intelligence software (e.g., Cision), and office tools (e.g., Excel, Microsoft Office, Adobe, and Google Suite); experience in higher education; and a portfolio of published articles and/or online content that demonstrates proficiency in a variety of writing styles.
