Columbia Business School is seeking an Executive Director, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). Reporting directly to the Vice Dean of DEI, the Executive Director leads all activities of the DEI Initiative involving faculty, staff, students, and alumni and develops the strategic vision and direction for the department. This individual will lead the school’s efforts to ensure a fully inclusive community in which all faculty, staff, and students feel welcomed, valued and respected. The Executive Director is a part of the senior leadership team at the school, and oversees all DEI activities, programs, trainings and workshops at the School involving faculty, staff, students and external constituents. This individual is a thought leader, committed to DEI, and making an impact to lead the change we want to see in the world. Careful measurement of DEI efforts and their impact, and communication of these metrics to various stakeholders in a regular way, will also be a critical aspect of the role. Provides leadership and oversight, including strategy and development for new and existing DEI initiatives. These initiatives include building community diversity in the student, staff and faculty constituencies, enhancing diversity and inclusion in the classroom and curriculum—both content and representation, and enhancing the culture and climate at the school for all stakeholders.
Develop strategic direction for DEI, including interface with faculty, administration, students, alumni, and external community. Strategize with the Vice Dean on planning, policy development, and problem resolution including training activities. Ensures implementation plans are effectively communicated and managed.
Recommend policy enhancements that remove barriers to faculty, staff and student success for historically marginalized and underserved populations at the school.
Oversees the creation and execution of the Phillips Pathway for Inclusive Leadership (PPIL) Program, in tandem with the Sanford C. Bernstein &Co. Center for Leadership and Ethics to ensure that the pilot program is successful and the roll out of the program is aligned with the strategic vision. Puts in place metrics to evaluate success of the PPIL initiative and pivot as needed based on feedback.
Provides leadership, supervision, and mentorship to a team of officers of administration in order to develop and manage their performance.
Conducts research on DEI issues and concerns at CBS and benchmarks with both the University and other institutions, as appropriate.
Drives the use of qualitative and quantitative data to identify the most significant short- and long-term opportunities and challenges facing the schools. Implements a data collection strategy and maintain up-to-date metrics on various DEI efforts. Communicates DEI metrics to all stakeholders in a regular way to inspire action. Works to evaluate DEI initiatives and activities, and ensure the comprehensive ongoing assessments of such initiatives.
Interrogates strategies and systems through a lens of diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism and ensure they drive towards school and network priorities and goals.
Promotes an organizational culture of continuous improvement by ensuring alignment between processes and systems with a focus on anti-racism and excellence.
Partners with School staff and administrative areas (Dean’s office, HR, Admissions, External Relations, Career Management Center, OSA), and other Centers and Programs, to ensure Program activities are aligned with School DEI initiatives.

Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree strongly preferred. Minimum 7-9 years’ experience as a diversity, equity, and inclusion practitioner required, ideally at an educational institution.
A minimum of 7 years’ experience in a leadership role where there has been demonstrated ability to lead, coach and directly manage a team of professional staff members required. Proven ability to manage both people and programs with a proactive leadership style. Excellent organizational and communication skills required. Must have experience developing and advancing diversity and inclusion programs. Must be aresults oriented leader. Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with a proven ability to meet and exceed ambitious goals. Demonstrated ability to utilize data insights to drive high-impact action. A commitment to serving diverse populations representing a range of racial, and ethnic, gender and sexuality, ability, religious, cultural, backgrounds, as well as an understanding of the dynamics of difference, privilege, and power required.
10 + years direct DEI-related experience strongly preferred. Success leading school improvement initiatives that increase student achievement in a meaningful way for all racial, ethnic, and economic groups strongly preferred
