Rutgers University Correctional Health Care (UCHC) is seeking a Health Records Clerk for the Garden State Youth Correctional Facility located in Yardville, New Jersey. Reporting to the Regional Nurse Manager, the Health Records Clerk will be responsible for the maintenance of health records at the site.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Organizes and maintains a system of files and records concerning diagnosis, treatments, admissions, and discharges.
Compiles, verifies, types, and files medical records of resident within the New Jersey Department of Corrections.
Ensures the confidentiality of all medical records information.
Performs all clerical duties related to the assembling and maintaining of medical records, including initiating records for new inmates.
Maintains accountability for the location of any medical record on file, logs in and out all record jackets received or sent out.
Maintains all files in established systems with all materials properly arranged and affixed within filing material as received.
Minimum Education and Experience:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to speak clearly and write proficiently.
Minimum of one (1) year experience in medical records.
Familiarity with the Problem Oriented Medical Record (SOAP) or similar system.
Clerical experience in relational database processes.
Computer literacy, such as Word, Excel, Power Point and Access.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Typing, ability to work at varying computer workstations provided by the Department of Corrections in shared office environments. Extended sitting is required, ability to move from unit to unit within correctional facilities, frequently walks, bends, stretches, pushes and pulls, intermittent physical exertion when performing job activities, manual dexterity and mobility for charting, lifting of up to 50 pounds, hearing and sight are essential. Ability to implement Universal Precautions and Safety Precautions
Able to function in a stressful environment and relates well to patients, security staff and healthcare team members. A generally crisis oriented, secure environment working with inmates, some who exhibit aggressive, threatening behavior. Individual must exhibit flexibility to work in a variety of settings. Entering and movement within the facility will be controlled by Correctional Officers.
Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.
