Responsibilities Within Technology Services, the Enterprise Compute team provides Systems Engineering, Deployment and System Administration services for UC Davis Health and is responsible for Servers, Virtualization Technologies, Cloud, Directory Services, and Automation. The incumbent is recognized as a subject matter expert in Vmware and Citrix virtualization technologies, Microsoft Active Directory, and Window Server.
Under minimal direction, this role will provide advanced Systems Egineering and Administration functions for a complex technological ecosystem comprised of Vmware (Esxi, vRA, vROPS, and SRM), Windows Server 2008-2019, HP Synergy & c7000 chassis, Citrix XenApp with Provisioning Services, and Active Directory (AD/DS, AD/CS, and AD/FS). Within the Windows Server environment, the employee will be expected to be proficient in the deployment of common services including SQL Clusters, File Services, and Web Services. The employee is expected to be able to write Visual Basic, Powershell scripts, and/or Python scripts to perform administrative tasks and automation. On a regular basis this position will provide technology support in the engineering, implementation, management, and matinenance of all technologies managed by the Enterprise Compute team.
This position will be responsible for driving technological innovation through regularly occuring research and technology assessments. Will need to continually research new technologies and develop roadmaps for technology replacement. This position will have primary responsibility for the creation and maintenace off all relevant documentation. This role will provide Tier 1-2 support for Unix technologies deployed on IBM Power Systems Architecture includding PowerHA System Mirror, PowerVM, and PowerVC.
Additional dutites include:
After hours and weekend support of all server systems including incident resolution, systems monitoring, and change management.
Monitor resource utilization and ensure appropriate capacity plans are utilized.
Document server assets and architecture and keep up-to-date.
Assist in creating and maintaining appropriate operational policies and processes.
Produce weekly management report outlining work items for the week, progress and status.
Oversee and assist in maintaining the Server Monitoring and Server Management systems.
Work with Solution Designers, Application Owners, and Vendors to ensure optimal design and configuration of environments.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Extensive experience in a role of VMWare Virtualization senior virtualization support engineer or subject matter expert.
Extensive experience with complex application solutions or systems.
Extensive experience with complex clustered environments using Microsoft cluster server.
Extensive experience with managing HPE C7000 & Syn12000 blade systems and Virtual Connect switching technology.
Extensive experience with managing Microsoft server operating system technologies and associated configuration and troubleshooting tools.
Extensive experience with SAN storage connectivity, multipathing, and general architecture as it applies to servers.
Experience with Citrix XenApp farm administration including PVS.
Expert in Directory Services with the focus on Microsoft Active Directory (AD) Administration, Active Directory.
Experience with public and private Cloud architectures and providers.
Expert engineering and defining AD security standards.
Federated Services (ADFS) and Group Policy authoring.
Architecture of complex application solutions or systems utilizing Citrix solutions.
Expertise in vendor patch analysis and deployment as it pertains to AD and systems utilizing AD.
VB Script and/or PowerShell scripting for administration tasks.
Excellent oral and written communication, excellent interpersonal communication, and collaboration skills.
Ability to work in a self-directed fashion, interacting effectively with senior UCDH staff, faculty and technical personnel.
Ability to work accurately and quickly under pressure of deadlines and critical circumstances.
Candidate always displays a courteous and professional attitude.
Expert in designing, implementing, and supporting PKI implementations.
Experience with VMWare Horizon View Virtual desktop environment.
Experience with Nutanix server hardware.
Experience with project management practice and methodologies.
Relevant industry technical certifications, such as MCSE or VCP.
Experience with and knowledge of the AIX operating system and IBM Power hardware.
Knowledge and experience managing PowerHA System Mirror for AIX.
Knowledge and experience with AIX, VIOS, and Linux patch management, particularly implementing and using IBM BigFix Patch.
Expertise in the administration of any variants of Linux (but especially Red Hat Enterprise).
Must be able to work extra hours (nights and weekends) if important development is behind schedule or the correction of problems with operational systems is considered critical.
IT Divisional projects and intitiatives may require assistance, on a temporary basis, outside of the normal scope of duties.
Participate in Oncall rotation.
Ability to speak, hear and see well enough to perform programming tasks and telephone consulting.
Must have valid California Driver's License.
